MISC. SKETCHES

Sketches that I've done in my free times and when my brain distracted me from doing actual work by whispering inside my head "Hey draw something cool."

Most of these sketches down here are accompanied by a short stories or writings because I tend to illustrate accordingly to a story that i have in mind.

A quick tribute to one of my recent favorite TV series, "Game of Thrones". Jon Snow isn't really my favorite character (actually it's Arya, Tyrion, Tywin, Jaquen H'ghar, etc..., too many and I'm afraid they'll kill them off sometimes later), not in the film at least, but in the book he's quite an interesting character. The idea of him being sent all the way up to this forsaken place and all he has to accompany himself is this big fluffy direwolf. I just thought it's a really cute image.

"The barren North to the Wall is a hard, cold and mean place, just like the men who walk it. The companionship of a warm and preferably furry friend, is always a welcoming sight."

The fact that I'm baked out of my mind serves little relevance.

13th MARCH, 2014

This has taken me almost a week to do. There were difficulties such as mimicking that lineworks to Japanese woodcut prints and by far, this work has a massive amount of detail (which is a complete breakthrough for me, I can't stand detail). But the process that ate up most of the time was to decide which colors are going to be the final one. I have at least 6 different version of this with various experimental colors, picking one to be the final was such a tough process.

About this piece. I've gotten into Art Nouveau and other Central Asian (especially Russian and Tibetan) religious paintings recently. What I love about these paintings are the amount of intricate details and colors, sometime they are off-putting really, but they works in some mysterious way. Also the fact that they are so symmetrically arranged, it's interesting to see Art designed in such a methodical and calculative manner.

The piece is a depiction of my spiritual journey. The character is my Asian take on the archetypal "The Fool" in Tarot cards. I've found many resemblances and reflection in the card itself, so it's something very personal to me. The theme for this piece is spiritual awakening via the act of travel; leaving behind the realm of ignorance (the burning tree), journey into the unknown seeking knowledge (the scrolls), master the unconscious (the purple and green smoke pattern), triumph over indoctrinated adversity (the purple cliff) to achieve higher understanding of my spiritual self and the world (the halo/sun disk).

VALENTINE'S DAY

Made this for my girlfriend on Valentine's Day. I've been wanting to try out Art Nouveau since forever but haven't really got the chance, mostly because of how intricate each piece is (detail wasn't really my thing and I wasn't very confident with my composition). Nevertheless I gave it a try and liked it ! I've been thinking about making an illustration book in this style and this is really good practice.

FOR MY GIRLFRIEND

Sketches done for my lovely girlfriend :)

LA LA LA - 1st OCTOBER, 2013

I have been listening to this song over and over, and watching its trippy music video just knock on that spontaneous illustrative part of my brain, urging me to draw something, even though it's 2 in the morning.
